Thank you to the Adams County Historical Society for hosting our 28th Annual Dinner.
The 28th Annual LCAC Dinner/Member Meeting has come and gone. From the feedback that we received it was a good one. The full house of 130 Land Conservancy supporters enjoyed the new venue and the chance to tour the Beyond The Battle Museum. Delicious appetizers, generously sponsored by Dick and Donna Mountfort, were enjoyed by all as they bid on unique auction items, tried to buy winning raffle tickets, and enjoyed the open bar. The invocation, offered by Curt Musselman, was creative and beautiful. There were many compliments on the food catered by Biggerstaff, especially the pot roast.
The best part of evening was the meeting itself. Matt Sheads and Mark Clowney, as co-emcees, were fun and efficient guides for the night’s agenda. Attendees were entertained and informed as they kept the meeting light and lively. Dave Salisbury and Norma Calhoun led us through the business portion of the meeting. Nominating committee chair Matt Sheads presented one new board member, Kelly Alsedek, for a three-year term and recommended many existing members be appointed to an additional term. All were approved. Then Ellen Dayhoff and Sarah Kipp wowed us with the beauty of the properties preserved during 2023. Together they told the great story of the preservation of 1,750 acres by Russell Williams, CEO of the Hanover Shoe Farms. (751 acres preserved by the LCAC and the rest by the County Agland Preservation program). In addition to the Hanover Shoe Farms properties four other Conservation Benefactors were recognized by Sarah with great pictures and stories of their properties: Estelle King in Connewago Township, Harvey and Christine Lee in Germany Township, Janice Newcomer in Reading Township and The American Battlefield Trust in Cumberland Township and Gettysburg Borough.
The evening concluded with information from the Events committee chair, Betsy Meyer, on the upcoming Art Auction, Summer Picnic and this year’s Road Rally. The theme for the 2024 Road Rally was revealed to be “Made in Adams County.” Finally, the lucky raffle winners received their cake, pie and fruit basket and Dave Salisbury added inspirational concluding remarks. We believe the attendees left feeling that 2023 was a good year for land conservation in Adams County and that the outlook is also rosy for 2024.
Thanks to all the members of the Annual Dinner committee for the lovely event.
